A classic South Indian snack, uppu seedai, also known as cheedai, is enjoyed in portions of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. After frying, uppu seedai usually has a golden brown color.
Uppu Seedai has a distinct texture that is made up of a little crumbly, softer core and an exterior that is crispy and crunchy. There's a pleasant contrast between the crispy outside and the soft, flavorful middle when you bite into it.
Keep Uppu Seedai out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dry area in an airtight container as the crispness of the snack may be compromised by moisture.
Janmashtami is incomplete without Uppu seedai and Vella seedai’s unique, distinct aroma and flavor dominating the entire house. It is a mandatory snack during the festive season in South India.
